Taking Care Of Your Hair Extensions
Overtime your extensions will become increasingly dry and damaged as you style them and expose them to the elements. Also, your extensions will not receive the oils and nutrients from your scalp that they need to stay healthy.
When you are choosing shampoos, conditioners and styling products; you are going to want to make sure that they contain ingredients that will strengthen and provide your extensions with the nutrients that they need to stay healthy.
Choosing A Hair Extension Shampoo
You should look for shampoos that are free of sulfate, sodium chloride and parabens. All three of these ingredients should be avoided at all costs.
These ingredients are added to a lot of shampoos because of their ability to separate dirt and oil from your hair. But what they actually do is strip your extensions of natural oils and destroy the cuticle surrounding your extensions. Once the cuticle is destroyed your hair extensions will be ruined.
You are going to want to choose a shampoo that will not only preserve the cuticle, but also strengthen it.
You should also keep a look out for beneficial ingredients like proteins & amino acids, panthenol and keratin. All of these ingredients strengthen your hair and cuticle from the inside out.
Also, the type of shampoo you choose will be determined by the texture of your hair. Women with straight hair would need a moisturizing shampoo and women with curly hair would need a shampoo with keratin.
How Often Should You Wash Your Extensions?
We recommend that you wash your hair and extensions 1 - 2 times per week. If you have oily hair, you may want to wash every other day.
But it is important to remember that the less you wash your hair extensions, the longer they will last.
Conditioning Your Extensions
Conditioning your hair extensions is a very important step in taking proper care of them. Because the extensions do not receive nutrients and oils from the scalp you need to make sure that you are using conditioners that contain key hydrating ingredients and don’t have damage causing ingredients like parabens or sulfates.
We recommend our Silk Smoothing Conditioner to most of our clients. This deep penetrating conditioner is infused with silk proteins and natural botanical extracts to rebuild damaged and chemically treated hair in just 60 seconds! It will also strengthen, adds shine and revitalize stressed hair.
We also have our Keratin Conditioner for women with extra dry and curly hair. This is another daily conditioner and is infused with Keratin, which helps to seal the cuticle and reduce frizz, leaving it smooth and shiny.
Daily Leave In Conditioner
After you wash and towel dry your hair, you are going to want to apply a leave in conditioner to your hair and extensions.
Deep Conditioning Your Extensions
In addition to regular conditioning, we also recommend you use a deep conditioning treatment on your extensions about once a week or once every other week depending on how oily your natural hair is.
We carry a couple of deep conditioning products that we recommend to all our clients. The first, and most popular, is our Cuticle Lisse Argan Oil Deep Conditioning Masque. This intense treatment is enriched with shea butter and moroccan argan oil. These two key ingredients penetrate the cuticle to rebuild strength, restore elasticity and hydrate dry or damaged hair. This masque is meant to be used every couple of weeks.
Styling Your Hair Extensions
Now that you have washed and conditioned your hair it’s time to move onto the final steps.
Next you will want to use our Argan Oil Shine Serum every time you wash your hair. Our shine serum is enriched in argan oil that will give your hair a luxurious shine and silky smooth texture! Argan oil is proven to make hair softer, silkier and shinier. You’ll want to apply this to your hair when it is still wet.
Next you will want to use our Thermal Defense Spray if you are planning on using any type of hot tool like a blow dryers, curling irons and flatirons. This spray was designed to protect your hair from damage that these types of tools can cause.
All these products were designed specifically to prolong the healthy and beauty of your hair extensions. Because your extensions are not attached to your scalp, you want to make sure that you are providing the extensions with the proper amount of moisture and nutrients that they are not getting. Cuticle Lisse was designed to do just that, hydrate and repair!
